Mission

Alternative Living for the Aging's mission is to provide safe, affordable housing alternatives for low-income older people -- alternatives to living alone and to institutionalization.

We have counseled over 26,124 people and have facilitated matching over 7,787 through our free Preinterviewed Housemate Matching Program, which assists seniors in matching with other seniors, midage, or younger people (sometimes college students) to share housing. These housemates might assist seniors with household responsibilities in exchange for reduced rent, typically in the seniors' own apartments, condos, or houses.

We also operate five attractive Cooperative Apartment Communities, where rents start at $460 per month including utilities in the Beverly/Fairfax area of Los Angeles, West Hollywood, and Santa Monica.
